About the event

As part of the 2024 Heritage Open Days Festival , English Heritage will be opening the gates to Chester Castle and telling the stories of the castle during the Civil War. Meet our soldiers, the Calvary horses and learn how women supported the war effort. Find out what life was like for civilians. Watch demonstrations and displays or dress up in armour Visit the fascinating Agricola Tower to see our beautiful wall paintings and our second-hand bookshop located in the cells. Take in the views of Chester and the surrounding countryside from the tower roof top . The Agricola Tower and Sally Port are accessible via stairs. Please note the Agricola Tower has a spiral staircase. 

Main Entrance to the castle can be found through the car park of the County Court Car Park. Parking is also available at the County Court Car Park. Dogs welcome on leads. 

Castle will also be open on Saturday 14 September; 10am -3pm.
