About the event

Chester's Midsummer Watch, with its first outing in 1498, is a major & unique part of Chester’s cultural heritage.

Over 500 local people, artists and musicians bring you this moving portrait of historical events & local legends. The parades feature biblical and other mythical characters including giants, dragons, devils, and pirates. A spectacle of colour and excitement not to be missed.

In 2024 we will be remembering the late Dave Roberts, Giant Master and father of the modern Parades. His four giants, which first walked the streets in the late 1980's, will be on their final outing. They will be rebuilt for next year.

On both Saturday and Sunday, the parade begins in Town Hall Square at 2pm, makes its way through the streets, and returns to the Square for the finale.
