About the event

For over fifty years Chester City Morris Men have been astonishing audiences near, farand wide with their unique rendition of this peculiarly English pastime, a custom once enjoyed and cherished in communities right across the land. As part of the Heritage Festival celebrations, CCMM invite you to learn how to morris dance Chester-style!

This workshop is open to all* and will run for about 60 minutes. No previous dance experience is necessary: we welcome all abilities, though be aware that this lively activity will, of necessity, make modest demands of personal fitness, stamina and coordination.

All you need to bring with you are comfortable flat shoes or trainers (clogs not needed!) and plenty of bottled water; clothing suitable for exercise is recommended. Our musicians will supply the tunes and expert teaching will be provided by the Squire (the side’s esteemed leader). By the end of the session you’ll be so seized by the delights of morris dancing that you’ll immediately start saving up for that first pair of clogs ...

*Under 16s must be accompanied by a supervising adult.

Please note The workshop will take place in the lower area adjacent to the City Walls below the main Castle.  This can be accessed via the small gate off the section of the City Walls overlooking Castle Drive, or via the main entrance to the Castle and down the steps to this lower area. No booking is necessary.

You can also catch the Morris Men in full cry earlier in the week when they dance at the High Cross at 19.15, and from 20.30 at the Albion Inn, on Monday 24 June.
