Chester's city walls, City Walls, Chester, UK

About the event

The Romans constructed defensive walls around their fortress. The walls were extended to protect the medieval city. By the beginning of the 18th century the Walls were repurposed as a place to promenade.

This is a self-guided walk which offers the advantage of choosing your own starting point and refreshment breaks. While walking the Walls this morning you may spot other festival activities and the annual raft race on the Dee. You can also visit King Charles Tower and Chester Castle. Find further details here.

If you are intending to do the full circuit of just under two miles, you will go up and down many steps. We recommend you walk in an anticlockwise direction to get good views of the Welsh hills and a better chance to spot the cat looking down on you.
