About the event

The festival launches with "Talking Chester", a free, day-long event with guest expert speakers in the Garret Theatre, StoryHouse. There will be four main talks of 45 minutes with a few short add-ons to some sessions and 15-minute breaks between sessions, for people to come and go as they choose.  

Tickets are free of charge but due to limited numbers booking is essential.

The schedule for the day is:

  • 10.15am - 11.30am Stories of the City and it's People: This session starts with three short talks followed by the keynote presentation, Carving out a Place in History, delivered by Nick Fry. Find out more, here.
  • 11.45am - 12.30pm Question Time: This session is based around a Q&A: 90 years of Cheshire Stories, with Joanne Goodwin. Find out more, here.
  • 1.00pm - 1.45pm Tales of Cheshire Folk: This session starts with four short talks followed by the keynote talk, A Wordbook of Rare Mithers, delivered by Si Poole. Find out more, here.
  • 2.30pm - 3.15pm Chester Voices: Cellan Harston of Roman Tours brings dispatches from the western limit of the Roman Empire in Deva. Find out more, here.
  • 3.30pm - 4.15pm Our Heritage: A discussion session with guest contributors brings Talking Chester to a close, exploring Our Heritage. Find out more, here.
