Overleigh Cemetery hosts many fascinating graves, which reflect Chester’s rich and diverse history. Join a Green Badge Tourist Guide and discover around 25 of the most notable graves, including those of Mary Jonas, mother of 15 sets of twins; Edward Langtry, husband of Edward VII's mistress, who went mad and died in Chester lunatic asylum; Marjorie Tucker, an RAF driver tragically killed by a train just before World War I ended, and Ishizo Ishimura, a Japanese acrobat who broke his neck whilst performing a backwards double somersault.
This 90-minute walk is not ideal for people with special access needs, but adjustments can be made with advance notice. The tour takes place every Friday from May to October at 14:00 from the cemetery gate opposite Blackwell's Stonecraft, Overleigh Rd, CH4 7HW. Tickets cost £10 and can be purchased in advance or before 13:15 on the day from the Visitor Information Centre in Town Hall Square, either in person or by phoning 01244 405340.
